PROBLEM:
Many people choose not to use public transportation due to the fact it is many times uncomfortable, personal safety is a concern, and it is inefficient.
SOLUTION:
The Personal Transport Pod (PTP) provides a low-cost solution to the energy crisis and the concerns over global warming.
HOW THE DESIGN WORKS:
The PTP blocks off one lane on major highways in major cities to install a light, overground rail system. Rather than everyone sharing a large compartment with strangers, the solar-powered with electrical auxiliary backup power PTP utilizes individual pods that can fit up to three individuals. The person may choose to ride alone and share it with a family member or friend. Each pod is equipped with a security camera to prevent vandalism and crime. The comfortable pods also come equipped with computers, Internet access, and pay phones to allow individuals to work if they choose. The pods can also allow the individual to recline or sleep in a supine position until they reach their destination.
PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS:
Each pod in the PTP could be designed to fit a maximum of three individuals. The PTP would run automatically in units of 10 to 20 pods. There would be frequent pod trains to minimize waiting.
BENEFITS:
1. Reduce the need for cars which would positively impact the environment with less pollution and less impact on global warming.
2. Reduce the reliance on foreign and domestic oil.
3. Reduce fuel costs for the consumer
4. Provide a fast and reliable method of commuting to work
5. Provide personal safety for each person since each pod is completely isolated from others
6. Reduce commuting related accidents
7. Handicap accessible
IMPROVEMENT ON THE MARKETPLACE:
Current transportation is too noisy, uncomfortable, not easy to access, does not follow typical commuter paths, and does not provide for personal space and personal security
PRACTICAL APPLICATION:
Convert one incoming and one outgoing lane on currently existing highways to build the energy-efficient PTP.
MARKETING POTENTIAL:
City planners in large cities such as Los Angeles would not see only a drop in air pollution but also an answer to their concerns over too many people on crowded highways. The personal nature of each pod would make commuting and traveling fun and safe.
