Colorful Encasement or “Skin” for Earpiece of Cochlear Implant Page Views: 144 Consumer
Rebecca Elie, Ypsilanti , MI US Votes: 7 10/17/2008

Colorful Encasement or “Skin” for Earpiece of Cochlear Implant The words “Cochlear Implant” arouse many emotions in the hearing and Deaf world. Some say that a child born deaf should become part of the Deaf Culture, learning to communicate through American Sign Language and enjoying this chance to associate with others in this manner. Others say that a child should be given the opportunity to hear, and so a Cochlear implant is chosen. People today

Whole Body Isokinetic Exercise System Page Views: 148 Medical
Steven Albrechtsen, Stoughton, WI US Votes: 16 10/17/2008

During prolonged space travel continuous exposure to zero gravity causes a wide range of physiological changes that reduce exercise capability and endanger physical well-being. These changes have particular consequences for the skeletal, muscular and cardiovascular systems. Weight-bearing exercise can prevent and/or reverse the changes, but is generally not possible in zero gravity. Isokinetic exercise (i.e., same speed exercise) is often used in rehabilitation and isokinetic equipment could be used in zero gravity. However, currently available

The "Skeleton" Urban Mass Transit System Page Views: 114 Transportation
Wade Hoople, Barrie, ON CA Votes: 5 10/16/2008

What I suggest is to develop a new urban mass transit system based on monorail technology above ground and parallel to existing roads. Granted, monorails have been tried before successfully and unsuccessfully and generally are not viewed as very cost effective. After researching the various monorail systems I find the over 100 year old Schwebebahn Monorail system in Wuppertal Germany - closely matches what I have envisioned. (See attached photographs) I see

ANTIFOGGING PAPER TOWELS FOR BATHROOM MIRRORS Page Views: 94 Consumer
Graham Allan, Kenmore, WA US Votes: 4 10/16/2008

ANTIFOGGING PAPER TOWELS FOR BATHROOM MIRRORS Men and women use the bathroom in quite different ways. One important difference is that typically after showering, women apply make-up before leaving the bathroom. To do this the use of a mirror is required. In many bathrooms the mirror becomes fogged by condensation while the shower is running. Bathroom fans generally do not prevent this fogging. For working women or students, much more than men, this fogging is a delaying irritation because

Boiling water shrinkage tester for textured yarn used in textile industry Page Views: 179 Machinery/Equipment
Dr.S.S. Bhattacharya, Mrs. T.N.Shaikh, D.J.Chudasama, BARODA, NA IN Votes: 6 09/27/2008

The natural fibres have crimp or convolutions and this characteristic gives bulkiness to the yarn. A new technique viz; texturing has been developed that modify long glass rod like structure of continuous filament yarn by introducing either permanent crimps, loops, coils or wrinkles, that makes filament bulkier and fuller in appearance without cutting them into staple fibres. Texturing methods: Several texturing techniques have been developed to impart bulk and stretch.False twist texturing is introduced into the commercial

Innovation in Commingling Machine use for Producing Hybrid Yarns For Thermoplastic Composite Basic idea Advance technology creates a need for combinations of properties that no single material can provide.Today composites have become the material of choice. Composite can be defined as combinations of dissimilar materials to perform a task that neither of the constituent material can perform alone. A textile composite is made of textile reinforce and a matrix material in form of fibre, yarn or fabric.

Amazing lawn sprinkler with adjustable coverage pattern! Page Views: 285 Consumer
Patrick Dennis, Oklahoma City, OK US Votes: 15 08/30/2008

An amazing lawn sprinkler that lets the user adjust the coverage area to the shape of the yard! Since I live in a cul-de-sac, I have a wedge shaped yard. I have tried sprinklers with circular or rectangular coverage areas and they waste water and time. If I use a rectangular coverage area on my wedge shaped yard, a large triangle section of the coverage area goes down the drain. The solution is a sprinkler that

The Next Generation Super Terminal - The ECSTC System Page Views: 187 Transportation
Samuel Alba, Montebello , CA US Votes: 7 08/29/2008

The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach combine for the largest inter-modal gateway in the Western Hemisphere. Combined, they move nearly 15 million container units (TEUs) equaling 40% of all containers moved via U.S. Ocean Ports of Entry. Today, billions of dollars are spent at these two port terminal complexes in the transfer of container cargo to and from ships, trains, and trucks. With respect to redundant operations at multiple complexes, an opportunity to

Electrical Generation from a Static Source Machine Page Views: 314 Sustainable Technology
Harold Graham, Shawnee, OK US Votes: 9 08/21/2008

A NEW METHOD OF GENERATING ELECTRICITY Present electricity generation methods can be compared to sumo wrestling. As magnets spin past coils of wire, the magnetic fields bump electrons causing them to flow. This flow produces a backward resistance against the dynamo. Steam and water are now made to always win over the dynamo, but in the end, they are inefficient and “panting from exertion”. A NEW PARADIGM: Why not generate electric energy in a method similar to

Inductive Coupling of Pulses to Implanted Electrodes for Deep Brain Stimulation Page Views: 256 Medical
Jie Wu, Knoxville, TN US Votes: 17 08/17/2008

The cause of Parkinson’s disease (PD) is not clear, and there is still no known cure. The treatments for PD, both medicinal and surgical, are used to minimize disability, and help the patient maintain the highest possible quality of life. Deep brain stimulation (DBS), e.g. Medtronics Activa system, is a surgical procedure for patients whose symptoms cannot be adequately controlled with medications. DBS uses a battery-operated medical device called a neurostimulator, surgically implanted subcutaneously in

Miniaturised Multi-frequency Printed Circuit Antenna for Wireless Applications Page Views: 12,762 Consumer
Shaileshachandra Pandey, Ahmedabad, NA IN Votes: 45 08/13/2008

A miniaturized printed circuit antenna Wireless-communication. Thus, reduction of antenna size is required for practical use. Several methods for size reduction have already been examined. But all these techniques are able to reduce the antenna size more or less by 50%. Since the resonant frequency of a patch antenna is inversely proportional to ??r, it is possible to reduce the resonant frequency by using a substrate with high dielectric constant. However, high-permittivity material entraps the

Artificial Intervertebral Disc Page Views: 430 Medical
Eugene Rivin, West Bloomfield, MI US Votes: 27 07/31/2008

The spinal column is a part of human body which is prone to development of malfunctions. A troublesome malfunction is breakage or rupture of intervertebral discs which have to perform a contradictory task –accommodate high vertical forceswhile providing for easy mobilities in horizontal/angular directions. One conventional treatment includes fusing of vertebraes connected by the ruptured disc, which limits mobility of the spinal column. Another treatment involves implanting of a spherical joint between the vertebraes. It is

Thor’s Shotgun – Large-area Mine and Cluster Ordnance Clearance. Page Views: 469 Safety and Security
Mark Langford, Beccles, Suffolk, NA GB Votes: 4 07/27/2008

Mines, whether lain by hand or scattered by cluster-bombs, are an ongoing hazard to life and limb around the world. They are also expensive and difficult to remove, with minefields taking hundreds or thousands of man-hours to clear, plus specialised training and equipment for the de-miners. This is often an expense that cannot be afforded because the minefield is in an economically-deprived area. “Thor’s Shotgun” is a proposal for a mine-clearance system suitable for clearing large areas

The Cuttlefish Drive: a low-budget ROV propulsion system. Page Views: 1,297 Machinery/Equipment
Mark Langford, Beccles, Suffolk, NA GB Votes: 10 07/13/2008

Every submersible remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) has weaknesses. Everything that pierces the hull (door, cable) is a potential leak, and if something must both pierce the hull and move at the same time, the potential for leakage is multiplied. This entry is a drive system that eliminates the need for drive-shafts to pierce the hull of an ROV, and also removes the very real possibility of rotating impellers getting tangled or jammed by underwater plants or hanging
