In the last 10 years there has been a lot of activity in aircraft seat design and configurations, and lately there has been talk from some airlines about multiple level configurations.. My dad and I came up with a cabin configuration ten years ago that can put 594 seats on the A380 in their 555 seat configuration, with all passengers in seat-beds having each more individual space than ever in the passenger industry since the sleeping berths on the 1930´s DC-3. This is a good deal for the aircraft industry since they get more seat count, and for passengers, because they get a more healthy and comfortable ride. This sistem also hepls prevent DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis), that is one of the fears of many frecuent flyers and elder passengers..Also, since there are three ailes in the design, passengers and aircraft staff have 50% more access to seats, restrooms and emergency exits, etc. In the design we have taken account of all dimensions in the cabins, emergency exits, restrooms, kitchens and trollies, etc. The seat weight factor is a very impotant one, this seats can be manufactured to weight about the same a actual seat weights, plus the structure is stronger and flexible. New logistics have also been designed for passenger seatting, since there are smaller and larger, older or younger passengers. This design is ment for any widebody aircraft from Boeing or Airbus.

What role does Mario believe product design plays in creating a better future?
Product design has the ability to make someone feel good, as when they like the design of their new car, cel phone or watch, it also has the ability of making life more comfortable, as with ergonomic designs for all kind of everyday stuff, from a pen, a chair to a car or airplane seat. And very importantly it also has the ability to save lifes, asi in an airbag, seat-belt, and medical utencils. Design, even before it was called design, has molded the world, form the first agricultural tools, rockets to the moon, to the latest communcation gadgets that have changed in many key moments the course of history. The good thing about design is that most of the time, it is made from people that want to do good things for everyone else, trying to create a better future.
